CFOs feel powerless when it comes to managing healthcare costs, new poll finds

Posted June 25th 2014 by Castlight Health

With U.S. enterprises spending more than $620 billion each year on healthcare costs, and nearly half of all Americans receiving their coverage through their employer, it’s no surprise that four out of five chief financial officers (CFOs) across all industries are feeling the pressure. In fact, nearly all CFOs (97%) believe that employers must “step-up” to the plate to help fix the broken healthcare system.

Rising healthcare costs place a huge strain on business. According to a new Harris Poll, which consisted of more than 100 CFOs at large self-insured U.S. companies, 80% say they feel powerless when it comes to managing their company’s healthcare spending. Even more so, 90% agree that if their company’s healthcare costs were lower, they could afford to invest more in their businesses.

Business leaders from across major industries are gathering today at the inaugural Castlight Enterprise Healthcare Summit in New York City to discuss ways to transform healthcare from an uncontrolled business cost to a business advantage. Here, industry experts and attendees will address key trends in enterprise healthcare, including new strategies and technologies for managing healthcare costs while improving outcomes.
