Castlight Health and Minnesota Community Measurement Partner to Deliver Vital Physician Quality Data to Users

Feb 27, 2012

Empowers Consumers with the Information They Need to Make More Informed Heath Care Decisions

San Francisco, Calif. and Minneapolis, MN – February 27, 2012 – Castlight Health, developer of a personalized health care shopping portal, and Minnesota (MN) Community Measurement, a leading health care collaborative, have partnered to deliver consumers better transparency into the quality of health care services. Through the partnership, Castlight Health will incorporate MN Community Measurement’s invaluable physician quality performance metrics into its health care shopping platform, allowing users to make better, more informed health care provider decisions. The partnership was unveiled at the Buyers Health Care Action Group’s (BHCAG) 5th Annual Employer Leadership Summit last week in Edina, MN.

“Working with Castlight Health provides great opportunity for the healthcare quality information we share with physicians to get directly in the hands of employees when they are making health care decisions,” said Jim Chase, President of MN Community Measurement.

MN Community Measurement is a regional health care collaborative that includes medical groups, clinics, physicians, hospitals, health plans, employers, consumer representatives and quality improvement organizations.

Castlight Health delivers the industry’s first Web-based personalized health care shopping platform offering users critical insight into the specific costs of common procedures, quality of providers and helpful educational and convenience data. The solution enables employers to mitigate the financial impact of rising health care costs by empowering their employees to make better, more cost-effective decisions regarding their health care needs. Under the partnership, MN Community Measurement will be providing Castlight Health in-depth quality of service metrics for physicians in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa.

“Consumers continue to shoulder more of the financial burden of rising health care costs, yet limited information on the cost and quality of these services restricts them from making informed decisions,” said Cathie Markow, Senior Director Clinical Quality, Castlight Health. “MN Community Measurement and Castlight Health are dedicated to breaking down these information silos and this partnership will help Castlight put the power of actionable, statistically reliable physician information into the hands of more health care consumers.”

The partnership was announced at the BHCAG Employer Leadership Summit in part because of BHCAG’s commitment to driving greater transparency in health care over the years. BHCAG has led the charge in convening employers and health care organizations around this issue and has contributed to the development of many solutions, including the birth of MN Community Measurement.

“People need to be able to purchase health care based on value, and the creation of a single, online tool that provides quality data and specific costs for procedures in one place is a step in the right direction,” said Carolyn Pare, president and CEO of BHCAG. “Employers and the health care industry need to continue to work together to create solutions that drive toward greater transparency for the people who purchase health care.”
