As specialty drug costs continue to climb, employers are searching for clearer visibility, stronger cost controls, and better experiences for the employees who rely on infusion therapy. That’s why we’re excited to welcome Leap Health as one of the newest partners in the Castlight Ecosystem. With access to Leap now integrated directly into the Castlight app, members can seamlessly access high-quality, convenient infusion care—right from their navigation experience.

Below, we sat down with the Leap Co-Founder & CEO, Rob LaHayne, to talk about the state of infusion care today and what makes their model different.

Untangling today’s infusion care challenges

Q: What should employers know about how infusion services are typically delivered today—and why this area is such a major cost driver in healthcare?

Infusion care is one of the leading drivers of specialty drug costs, but is typically found in the medical claims, not your pharmacy benefit. Like any other healthcare service billed through the medical plan, infusion care includes margin paid to the provider that is negotiated with the insurance company. The margin on infusion therapies can increase the price of an already expensive drug by as much as 400% or more. The drugs are expensive, but the opacity of the way these drugs are billed through the medical plan is actually very controllable. Leap Health was created to bring more transparency, predictability and cost savings to employers for infusion care.

Q: Why is it important for employers to pay attention to infusion care right now?

Today, about 1-2% of the population is on an infusion drug, yet they can contribute over $100B to overall healthcare costs. With 10-20 new drugs per year coming to market via FDA approval, the percentage of those on infusion care is only going to continue to rise – representing a 10%+ CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate) for infusion drugs and employers need to proactively get a solution in place before it’s too late.

Meet Leap: A new model for employers and employees

Q: Tell us about Leap Health.

Leap Health is the only nationwide infusion provider built specifically for employers. Our unique, pass-through model for specialty drugs creates unmatched savings for employers by removing opacity and eliminating provider margin that can increase the cost of the drug by 400% or more. Leap is the first fully transparent, fee-based solution for specialty infusion care. Our model aligns financially with the plan-sponsor and experientially with the patient.

Q: How does that model change the experience for both employers and their employees?

For employers, our model creates both transparency and savings. By eliminating margin, Leap ensures employers pay the actual price of the drug and that it is consistent across all patients. It is not uncommon for infusion drug prices to vary drastically based on site of care. Leap is both the lowest cost provider and the only one that ensures the employer pays the actual acquisition cost of the drug.

For patients, Leap is a game-changer for working families. Our focus is on patient access, comfort, and convenience. Getting infusion care can be very inconvenient – often requiring travel to facilities only to receive a very time consuming treatment. Leap’s model prioritizes patient comfort and convenience by bringing care directly to their homes. Patients can schedule on their time and have a far less disruptive experience. If the patient doesn’t want treatment in the home, then we also have a national network of partner facilities for guaranteed access to quick, convenient care. Reducing barriers to receiving care also improves patient adherence, which is the number one cause of treatment failures for infusion drugs.

Q: Where do you see the biggest opportunity to improve healthcare access or outcomes in 2026?

Improving access does improve outcomes. The number one reason for treatment failure with infusion drugs is folks falling out of compliance with their prescribed regimen. This is largely due to the inconvenience of receiving care and cumbersome prior authorization processes with the insurance companies. Leap makes care more convenient, but also wraps our arms around our patients with a concierge experience through our clinical care guides that work 1:1 with patients to ensure every step of their care goes off without a hitch.
