600,000 Harvard Pilgrim Plan Members in the Northeast Region to Benefit from Greater Health Care Transparency

SAN FRANCISCO – January 31, 2013 – Castlight Health today announced that full-service health benefits company Harvard Pilgrim Health Care has selected Castlight as its health care transparency partner. Through the partnership, 600,000 Harvard Pilgrim plan participants will gain access to a customized version of Castlight’s health care management suite, providing them critical insight into cost and quality information for health care providers and common procedures. Castlight is the leading provider of Health Care Transparency solutions for employers and payers.

Harvard Pilgrim is a not-for-profit health plan that provides a variety of benefit options and funding arrangements to more than one million members in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. For the past nine years, Harvard Pilgrim has been named the top private health plan1 in the country by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)2.

Amid recently passed legislation in Massachusetts calling for increased health care transparency, Harvard Pilgrim is dedicated to staying ahead of the regulatory curve and maintaining its reputation as the country’s leading health plan. After an extensive evaluation process, Harvard Pilgrim selected Castlight for its innovative platform, robust data and intuitive user interface. Through the partnership, Harvard Pilgrim members will receive access to a specialized version of Castlight’s health care management suite that features out-of-pocket pricing and quality measures for all in-network health care providers.

“For more than 40 years, Harvard Pilgrim has provided high quality services, exceptional care and competitive prices to our community. As a result, we’ve consistently been rated amongst the best health plans in the country,” said Eric Schultz, president and CEO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. “Empowering our members with additional information they can use to make better health care decisions is critical to our service offering and underlies our commitment to delivering a high-value experience to members.”

“Harvard Pilgrim is a pioneer in delivering high-quality, high-value care to its health plan members and incorporating health care transparency into its service offerings is another innovative step forward,” said John Driscoll, president, Castlight Health. “To change the dynamics of the health care industry, we must instill consumerism and value-based decision-making through access to information. We look forward to working with Harvard Pilgrim to drive new levels of health care transparency for their members.”
