When and where can Castlight’s Virtual Urgent Care be used?
Castlight’s Virtual Urgent Care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all 50 states. Can be accessed from anywhere—home, office, or even events like a child’s baseball game.
Is the solution available now?
The solution is in use now with select Castlight customers and will launch nationwide in July 2025. Interested organizations can learn more and start the onboarding process. Virtual Urgent Care offers a fast deployment, launching within two weeks post-contracting.
How do patients access Virtual Urgent Care?
Members access Virtual Urgent Care conveniently from the Castlight app.
How does Virtual Urgent Care work for patients?
Virtual Urgent Care provides patient-centered care from licensed physicians and nurse practitioners directly to members with the convenience of chat-based experiences and optional video visits. The process is quick—just 15 minutes from start to finish:
- Castlight Care Guides facilitate post-visit follow-ups and care coordination for even better comprehensive care.
- Members will fill out a brief survey with their concerns.
- A qualified provider will review and respond within 5-7 minutes with a personalized treatment plan.
- Members are offered an optional full video visit when warranted.
The care experience remains meaningful and patient-focused, mirroring in-person visits as much as possible. Patients receive their care plan directly through the Castlight app. Prescription fulfillment is also connected for seamless medication access.
Who can access care?
Virtual Urgent Care support extends to a member’s dependents, including adults, children, and even infants in some instances.
What can members use it for?
Virtual Urgent Care covers common, everyday care needs, including:
General health: ER visit follow-up, female bladder infection (UTI), gastrointestinal conditions, gout attack, low back pain, vaginal discharge and urinary concerns
Eyes, ears, mouth: Allergic rhinitis (seasonal allergies), dental pain, eye conditions (pink eye, stye), canker sore, cold sore or fever blister, impetigo, ear pain (swimmer’s ear)
Skin, hair, nails: Burns, diaper rash, eczema, insect bite or sting, shingles
Cold, flu, COVID-19: Cold, sinus infection, flu, COVID-19, flu exposure, whooping cough exposure, strep throat positive home test
Sexual health: Birth control, emergency contraception (morning-after pill), genital herpes medication refill, STD (chlamydia exposure)
Travel needs: Altitude sickness prevention, malaria prevention, motion sickness prevention, travel health kit, travelers’ diarrhea
Medication refills: Refills for asthma, EpiPen, hypertension, migraine, general medication

Virtual Urgent Care is not an appropriate care choice for those experiencing life-threatening or serious medical issues. Those experiencing the symptoms like those listed below should go to the emergency room as quickly as possible or call 911.

- Uncontrolled vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration
How much does it cost members to use?
There’s no cost to the member to use Virtual Urgent Care unless their medical plan requires a co-pay.
