Meet Castlight: Q&A with Angel Rosa Jr., SVP of Customer Experience

In our new blog series, Meet Castlight, we’re featuring some of the best hearts and minds that drive our business. In this Q&A, we learn more about our Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, Angel Rosa Jr.

What is your role? How does it support Castlight’s mission?

As the leader of our Customer Experience organization, I view my role as continually thinking about how we can improve the experience of our customers and deliver against their desired outcomes. Being a customer-centric organization that’s always thinking about the customer journey differentiates us from other solutions and aligns with our mission to simplify the healthcare journey for our customers and their members.

What led to your decision to join the Castlight team?

I was looking for a company that had a similar passion to mine, which is fixing what’s broken in healthcare. Castlight was so passionate about it that you could feel it. I was inspired by the conversations I had with leaders during my interview process and continue to be inspired and impressed with people across the entire company. Great cultures are hard to find, and we have a great culture here.

What’s your mantra in a few words?

Just do it!

What is your go-to quarantine activity?

Right now it’s shifting because I live on the east coast and it’s getting colder out. So, I’m mostly inside again. During the summer I played a lot of golf (three to four times a week!). Now, I’m catching up on a few books I stopped reading halfway through — Wine and War, A Promised Land, and First Principles — and I’m also learning about wine again.

What’s the biggest challenge and opportunity for leadership with a remote workforce?

I’ve always led remote teams, and the number one thing I tell people when they lead remote teams is how important it is to keep them engaged in your culture. Whether you’re in the office or working remotely, your team needs to feel connected to the mission and the vision. COVID-19 has created another level of complexity with working families and remote learning for kids, so as a leader it’s important for me to be empathetic, sensitive to their time, and to schedule time with them just to check in. The events in our lives overlap now more than ever — and for some more than others — and we need to be aware of that as leaders.

What are you most excited about as the next innovation in digital health?

Generally, I’m excited about the acceleration in our solutions to adjust to a COVID-19 world. The advances we make now in telehealth, engagement, and other types of remote care will happen faster now than they have in the last 20 years. I’m excited for all the entrepreneurs who are bringing solutions to market faster and iterating on the capabilities to respond to the pandemic. I’m most excited about how these new technologies and tech-enabled services will support reaching out to and caring for populations that, in the past, may have been invisible.

What are you passionate about outside of work? (hobbies, mentorship, volunteering, family)

I am very passionate about wine. I believe that wine is an artist’s expression of themselves and their environment —and like a painting on the wall, wine is the result of a labor of love. I think Galileo said, “Wine is sunlight held together by water.” I believe that!
